Butte College athletes delivered outstanding performances at the Golden Valley Conference (GVC) Cross Country Championships, held at Shasta College on November 2. The Roadrunners took home both the men’s and women’s team championships against strong competition from host Shasta College, College of the Redwoods, Lake Tahoe Community College, and Mendocino College.
In the women’s race, Butte’s Jennifer Johnson led most of the way, ultimately finishing third. Lake Tahoe’s Caitlin Fulbright claimed first in 18:40, followed by teammate Niza Barton in 18:48. Johnson clocked in at 18:53, with College of the Redwoods’ Anna Grimmet securing fourth.
The men’s race saw a strong showing from Butte’s Stephan Chapdelaine, who took first with a time of 20:18, improving on his season best. Teammate Phillip Logan finished third, and Butte rounded out the top eight, capturing the title with 17 points.
Butte’s impressive performance advances them to the Northern California Championship on November 8 in Salinas, California.
