This list is intended to be a general guide to EOPS services.
A current, more detailed description of each service is provided during EOPS orientation.
EOPS services are based on the availability of funds and may vary from semester to semester.
As an EOPS student, you will be assigned an EOPS counselor to help guide you and answer your questions as you pursue your college career. EOPS students are required to meet with their counselor three times each semester.
The EOPS POWER Center provides free, one-on-one, appointment - based tutoring in a wide array of subjects. A more intensive tutoring program for selected math classes is also available.
EOPS students who complete their three required counseling appointments each semester are eligible for priority registration the following semester, i.e., they can enroll in classes the first day of registration, before most other students.Priority registration virtually ensures that you will get all of the courses you need to make progress toward your goals.
EOPS students who meet the EOPS program requirements receive a book credit every semester to help with the cost of textbooks. You can use the book credit to buy books at the campus bookstore or you can receive it in the form of a reimbursement check for books purchased elsewhere.
Eligible EOPS students can check out textbooks for the entire term from the EOPS lending library on a first come, first serve basis. Books are always due the last day of the term. Donations of current textbooks are gladly accepted.
EOPS lends scientific calculators, and graphing calculators to eligible students for the entire semester on a first come, first serve basis. Equipment is always due the last day of the term.
The EOPS computer lab is open to EOPS students for school-related activities whenever the EOPS Office is open. You can print school-related materials for personal use for free in this lab.
EOPS can advance emergency funds of up to $300/year to students for unforeseeable, non-routine expenses. The loan is automatically paid back during the same semester it is received through your financial aid refund.
If you are invited to join the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society (PTK), EOPS will pay for your lifetime membership in that society. For more information on Phi Theta Kappa, please visit the PTK webpage.
If you are in EOPS the academic year that you graduate, and you want to walk in the commencement ceremony, EOPS will pay for your cap and gown. If you are a member of Phi Theta Kappa, EOPS also will pay for your PTK stole.
If you are in EOPS when you are applying to transfer to the California State and/or University of California systems, your application fee to these institutions is waived for up to four campuses each.
EOPS students approved for EOPS work study can earn up to $1800 per year. EOPS works in conjunction with the Job Placement Office to find available on-campus job opportunities for EOPS students.
Participation in EOPS satisfies the CalFRESH student eligibility requirement. If you are applying for CalFRESH benefits, be sure to check the box that you are a current EOPS student. At the interview you may be asked about EOPS status.
First-time college students who qualify for EOPS are invited to attend our Summer Bridge program. Summer Bridge is a week-long program where students will engage in activities and workshops that promote academic success, and student involvement. All participants will receive free breakfast and lunch each day along with school supplies and materials to help them succeed at Butte College.
